The Elizabeth Kostova Foundation for Creative Writing, based in Sofia, Bulgaria, owns and operates this website under the domain: https://www.contemporarybulgarianwriters.com.
The website is a literary platform which presents up-to-date profiles of living Bulgarian writers of fiction and short stories. It aims at facilitating the access of the English speaking audience to the contemporary Bulgarian literature. Created in public interest, its mission is to be a crossing-point of the contemporary Bulgarian literature and the English speaking world.
Each profile contains a biography, excerpt(s) and picture. Synopses, interviews and critical reviews are gradually being added. This site also features the translators of the published texts. Profiles are searchable by author and title.
The content of this website is generated by some of the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation’s core projects, such as its international Sozopol Fiction Seminars, the Krastan Dyankov Translation Award and the Fiction Pages in VAGABOND, Bulgaria’s English Monthly.
Although this project has been kicked off with profiles of writers we have worked with, new authors will be added on irregular basis.
Together with the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation’s ongoing projects, which will continue to feed the database with new texts in translation, the site will be additionally updated through open requests. Submissions to the website will be considered by an international review panel twice a year. We accept proposals for writers to be featured on the site from writers, publishers, editors, translators and literary critics.
Before being published, every entry is approved by the featured author.
