Olga Nikolova was born in Sandanski, Southern Bulgaria, but grew up in the small industrial city of Pernik. After graduating from Pernik’s Modern Languages High School, she pursued a master’s degree in English at Sofia University, where she won the Marko Minkoff scholarship for her thesis on the poetry of T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound. She completed her PhD at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, in 2005, where she wrote a dissertation on modern poetry, graphic design and academic writing. Disaffected with academic conventions, she redirected her attention to contemporary literature and translation. Her translation of Albena Stambolova’s novel Everything Happens as It Does appeared by Open Letter Books in 2013. For the last few years, Olga Nikolova has been translating the works of Ezra Pound and Gertrude Stein into Bulgarian. She has written a number of essays and short stories. She now lives in France.
